Creativity and Intuition

Creativity is the critical ingredient required in the cocktail of ‘abilities’ necessary for readying a person for the outside world. Sadly our education system considers creativity the least important requirement whilst maths, sciences, languages and the humanities take priority. Yet it is the blending of creativity with all the other abilities that enable a person to become an original thinker, allowing a blend of all these abilities to work together.
At some level, everyone is creative. I know of extraordinary interior decorators and musicians who cannot draw in the 'conventional' way, yet their work is inspirational. I even know some people who draw remarkably well but think that they don't.
Everyone has intuitive thoughts every day, whether we recognise them as such or not. All are original to us. It was intuition that gave Nikola Tesla, the brilliant Serbian-American inventor the source for his extraordinary ideas. It gave Einstein, Leonardo da Vinci, Benjamin Britten and Richard Branson theirs and Steve Jobs of Apple fame has often said he lived by his intuition.
By recognising the extraordinary wisdom of our Intuition, we begin to tap into our entirely unique creative perspective. Trusting our Intuition and loosening our dependence on the external guidelines and perspectives of others is the key to becoming truly creative in a way that is uniquely our own.
My aim is to help people tap into and be surprised by their intuitive abilities. By moving away from the standard methods of drawing, they discover creative abilities that they hadn't realised they had before. It is in noticing these and surprising themselves that we encourage them to recognise their own unique abilities and to suggest they spend more time exploring it themselves.
Another point I convey to my students is that practising and gaining confidence in their own abilities and their willingness to make mistakes along the way will, more than anything else, give them the courage to be original - and in a world of extraordinary technological growth and strength, being confident enough to be an 'original thinker' is so important. We need original thinkers now more than we ever have before.

Course Details

The course is held in Suffolk (UK) and is a 3 day course , though if individuals can only come for one or two days, that is fine too.
On the first day we will do a number of drawings which challenge our normal perceptions - we will draw with sticks and stones and feathers - and we start the process by simply dropping some bits onto paper as a starting point - later we will consciously try and draw the worst picture ever - and then we will draw in sand- a return to the beach and to childhood games.
On the second day we will draw to the sound of music, intuitively allowing the music to inspire the marks that we make on the paper. We will do several 'music' drawings (listening to very different types of music). In the afternoon, we will draw a tree- inspired by our own stories, ideas and music, bringing it to life in a way that perhaps we have not done before- an electrifying process.
On the third day, we will draw the largest picture any of us has perhaps ever drawn, using an array of materials including huge lumps of charcoal, house paints, feathers, twigs -indeed whatever comes to hand. In a sense, we actually make the drawings rather than draw them. We will draw with long sticks with charcoal taped to the end of them. Expect to get covered in charcoal dust!
In the afternoon we will discuss what we have learnt about our intuitive abilities and how this can be infused into our own regular style of work. We will undertake an exercise where we blend the two together in a drawing, allowing this new energy to infuse our regular style and give it a new life and momentum.The aim will not be to draw a perfect image - rather to feel and sense how it can energise our current style of working - a way in which to use the course as a stepping stone into a new perception of what we can actually achieve once we let our hair down, spread our wings and fly.
The shorter courses will be a shortened version of the above.

Courses by skype for participants across the world;
I am currently working on courses that can be run via skype for people across the world. it is taking a little planning, but watch this space. This will be an extraordinary way to help others across the world recognise their true Creative and Intuitive abilities.
